Northern Lights by traditional row boat

Guests who appreciate the beauty of nature in the region can also now experience the Autumn Northern Lights on the Torne river in a traditional handcrafted row boat. This new guided Northern Lights experience departs from the village of Kurravaara meaning ‘a canyon in the mountain’. The tranquil mirrored river spreads into a vast lake surrounded by mountains, with oars in hand guests can row amongst the fresh earthy scent of coniferous trees and glimpse golden leaves of the mountain birch as they turn the banks into a kaleidoscope of Autumn colours.

Leaving at dusk, guests will experience the regions star filled night sky and (hopefully) the Aurora Borealis with expert guides on hand to teach guests about the Arctic night sky as they go. All of this whilst relaxing amongst the wilderness and the water, and enjoying a locally produced warm berry drink and delicious local snacks.

The Aurora Dome autumn aurora hunting

Guests can now enjoy the splendor of the Northern Lights from a contemporary and comfortable giant glass dome. The dome has been placed in the wilderness, ideally situated for Aurora spotting with a 180-degree view north and just a short hike along prepared trails from your drop off point.

During the evening guests will be warmed by a wood stove and enjoy a satisfying bowl of reindeer soup whilst learning about the Northern Lights from the trips’ experienced guides, and as they do appear, guests have the choice of making their way outside to a newly built Northern Lights deck to get even closer to the action.

Autumn in the Arctic

Autumn, known locally as the ‘ruska’, is considered one of their favourites. It delivers the first Auroras of the season along with Autumn colours. This new Autumn Northern Lights experience will not only allow guests to get in touch with nature, but will also give the chance to experience the lights, even with the chance of experiencing them reflected in the local waters.

A possible autumn Northern Lights travel itinerary
