Known for being the hometown of Santa Claus Rovaniemi benefits from the world famous Santa Claus Village located just outside the city centre where Christmas is all year round! Rovaniemi city is relatively small and compact with vibrant restaurants, bars and an abundance of quality hotels.

Rovaniemi sits on the Arctic Circle providing long Polar Nights throughout the winter season making it a great destination for the Northern Lights and in the summer for the Midnight Sun.

There are plenty of direct flights into Rovaniemi and indirect flights which give you the option of a city-stopover, for example in Helsinki or Oslo.

Climate

The temperature throughout the winter period in Rovaniemi fluctuates between lows of -25 degrees celsius and highs of -5 degrees celsius with heavy snow fall between late November up until early March. The Polar Nights throughout December and January provide perfect conditions for the Aurora spotting!

Geography

Rovaniemi is the Capital City of Lapland located in Northern Finland between the hills of Ounasvaara and Korkalovaara and at the junction of the Ounas and Kemi rivers. The Arctic Circle runs straight through Rovaniemi which provides a unique attraction to guests as they are able cross the Arctic Circle in Santa Claus Village.

Plants and Animals

Finland has diverse wildlife with currently 80 mammal species. Whilst in Finnish Lapland you are likely to see reindeer and wild moose, you could also see lynx or brown bears if you were very lucky!

Finland’s North is full of wild herbs and berries such as cloudberries, bilberries and lingonberries, these are possible to pick from early summer until the end of autumn.
