Abisko and Bjorkliden, which nestle in the mighty mountains of the Arctic, are amongst the worlds best destinations for a Northern Lights holiday. From your luxury cabin you can spend the days experiencing any of the great activities on offer including dog sledding and snowmobiling. At night venture high into the surrounding mountains with a trip to the Aurora Sky Station. This specially designed viewing platform is located in Abisko National Park high up in the mountains and perfectly positioned for viewing the Northern Lights*. This package also gives you the chance to join Lights Over Lapland photographer Chad Blakley on a photo tour to witness and photograph the aurora borealis in the wilderness of Abisko National Park!


Sweden - Abisko and Bjorkliden

This package takes you 250km north into the Arctic circle the small village of Bjorkliden, situated on the outskirts of the Abisko National Park in northern Sweden. It has long been a favourite with nature-loving Swedes with great views across the Lapporten mountain range and the pristine Lake Torneträsk. It’s considered one of the best places in the world for the Northern Lights being almost completely free from light pollution. With a wide variety of activities on offer as well as great food in the restaurant and bar this is a great destination for those looking to combine the Northern Lights with a great winter holiday.


This package is available between December and April.


There are three types of accommodation available to choose, from stylish hotel rooms and luxury self catering cabins to large log cabins suitable for up to 10 people. All types of accommodation are available with the option of breakfast, half board or full board.

Kappas Cabin

These 2 bedroomed, well appointed private chalets are equipped with kitchen including hob, oven/microwave and dishwasher. All chalets have a sauna and balcony and are a short walk away from the hotel bars and restaurants. Skiers are well catered for with purpose built ski storage cupboards. All chalets have TVs and individually controlled heating. Breakfast, half board and full board options are available on request.

Hotel Rooms

These well appointed premium hotel rooms offer all the facilities and comforts required for a great stay, with single, double and family rooms available. Situated in the heart of the hotel these rooms are close to all the facilities, including the cafe reception area, sports desk and restaurant. Half board and full board options are available on request.

Solhyllan log cabins

These 4 bedroomed traditional luxury wooden houses have 2 lounge areas with LED tvs, fully fitted kitchen with dishwashers, cooker, oven, dining area with 8 seater dining table. All chalets also have wifi, sauna and balcony and to top it off each house has a private Hot Tub on the balcony allowing you to relax in the water and watch the Northern Lights. Breakfast, half board and full board options are available on request.

There are a wide range of activities on offer. Simply choose the ones you would like to include in your package.

Taste of Arctic

This is an evening private activity lead by a trained chef and mountain guide. Travel on a snowmobile sled to a nearby igloo. The 4 different courses of the meal will be prepared outside by the chef and each course will lead to a story about the area i.e. when you eat the cloudberries you will learn all about where they are grown and their lift-cycle, and their importance in the Arctic. You will be eating in the igloo and then search for the Aurora from outside the igloo.

From Fjell to Fjord: Narvik Day Trip

A minibus tour with a guide over the stunning mountains that straddle the Swedish and Norwegian border to the town of Narvik.

Aurora Village overnight stay

A short walk from the hotel, up in the mountains above Björkliden,with beautiful views of the landscape, are three traditional ice-fishing huts. They are now cosy rooms for overnight stays with great opportunities for observing the Northern Lights, away from distracting artificial lights. Travel with your guide on snowshoe or snowmobile and spend the evening waiting for the magical Aurora Borealis. After a cosy night in your cabin the guide will return, with breakfast to collect you in the morning.

Arctic Experience Day

Enjoy the day in Abisko National Park experiencing the stunning wilderness. Snowmobiling, lunch around the fire and ice-fishing are all included.

Northern Lights Lavvu Experience

Travel by snowshoes to a traditional Sámi lavvu situated in the mountains and search for the Northern Lights!

Ice Fishing

Arctic char is the crown jewel of all the fishes in the Arctic. It is a tricky one to catch but when it strikes, it is a true fighter!!!


Take a trip to the world famous ICEHOTEL to marvel at the ICE Rooms and try a drink in the ICEBAR!

Skiing and Snowboarding

With a wide selection of on and off piste skiing Bjorkliden is great for beginners and professionals alike!

Alaska Trapper Dog Sledding Tour

Meet up with your huskies and then lean back in a comfortable sled whilst your driver and dogs take you on a great adventure!

Aurora Sky Station

Take a journey like no other to the world-famous Aurora Sky Station. A perfect place to watch the Northern Lights with a large deck looking right up at the dark sky. You can also warm up in the cosy restaurant in front of a roaring log fire or learn a it about the Aurora Borealis in the information exhibit. If you want to make the evening really special you can travel up the chairlift earlier to enjoy a delicious meal.

Ice Climbing

Climbing on the frozen waterfalls surrounding Bjorkliden is a wonderful experience and suitable for beginners.

Arctic Wilderness Intro

Together with an experienced guide, you will be introduced to the basics for outdoor living during winter time. You will learn what to consider when choosing terrain to make a base camp in Arctic conditions, how to make a fire in the winter, use a wind sack and how to get drinking water and other basic knowledge. A fun activity for the whole family.


Discover the Kåppasjåkka cave, one of Sweden's longest cave systems. On this exciting adventure discover cave halls covered with stalagmites and stalactites .

Frozen Lake Aurora

Weather permitting you will head out in a snowmobile trailer onto the frozen lake, to a cosy hut with a fire with your guide. Here you will find the perfect spot to and set up your camera wait for the Northern Lights.

Snowshoe Tours

Wearing snowshoes makes walking on deep soft snow much easier. Head out with your guide in either Abisko and Bjorkliden and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The Låktatjåkko Mountain Lodge

Travelling by Snowcat or snowmobile with sled travel up to Sweden's highest mountain station, Låktatjåkko. A true must for everyone who visits after mid-February.

Reindeer and Sami Experience

Take a day trip to a Sámi village and experience the traditional lifestyle of the reindeer people. Meet and learn about the Sami traditions and get up close and personal with Laplands most iconic creature – the reindeer. Feed them and also enjoy a short ride on a traditional sled. Your guide will then lead you to a Sami lavvu (teepee) where you will be served a fresh and delicious meal around an open fire.
