The World Happiness Report measures the state of global happiness with six key metrics: GDP, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, generosity and trust. The Top 10 Happiest Countries

The top ten features six of our holiday destinations: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. These are the final rankings based on all six metrics; where all of the Nordic nations rank very highly.

  • Norway – 6th
  • Sweden – 13th
  • Denmark – 18th
  • Iceland – 19th
  • Canada – 20th

Gross domestic product is the indicator of a nation’s wealth and is measured in terms of purchasing power parity. Our destinations are all clustered around the top 20, but the highest country in this category is Qatar.

  • Finland – 6th
  • Norway – 7th
  • Canada – 17th
  • Sweden – 18th

Social support is a metric that measures whether people have someone to count on in times of trouble and is a good indicator for the strength of community with a nation. Iceland takes the first place, with all of our other destinations once again in the top 20.

  • Sweden – 16th
  • Finland – 25th

  • Denmark – 31st

Life expectancy is one of the easiest metrics of happiness to understand and is closely linked to a nation’s GDP. The top spot this time goes to Singapore.

  • Norway – 2nd
  • Iceland – 4th
  • Denmark – 5th
  • Finland – 7th
  • Sweden – 9th
  • Canada – 10th

Personal freedom is a point where our destinations shine strongest. All of our destinations are comfortably within the top ten, although the number one spot in this case goes to Uzbekistan.

Generosity is measured by recent donations to charity. Myanmar are at the top here, with the results showing a much wider spread of variance amongst our destinations than for any other metric.

Trust is measured as the perceived absence of corruption. Singapore comes in first again here while all of our destinations are in the top 20 except for Iceland.
