Holmen Husky Lodge is a unique Arctic retreat set in the wilderness near Alta in northern Norway, where authentic adventure and serene comfort come together beneath the vast Arctic sky. Located just outside the city known as the City of the Northern Lights, this lodge offers a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by pine forest at 70 degrees north, with huskies, winter landscapes and the chance to see the aurora borealis forming the heart of the experience.
The story of Holmen Husky Lodge began in the mid 1980s as a family endeavour on the Finnmark plateau and has grown into one of Europe’s most respected destinations for dog sledding and wilderness travel. Guests stay close to the kennel in architect-designed Forest Suites that blend contemporary Nordic design with the raw stillness of the Arctic landscape. Each suite is crafted in solid timber and set quietly among the trees, allowing the natural surroundings to become part of the accommodation experience.
Forest Suites are spacious and welcoming, designed with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of snowy pines, open skies and, when conditions are right, dancing northern lights from the comfort of your room. These cabins reflect a modern take on traditional Arctic architecture, creating a warm and calm interior that complements the silence outside. The lodge’s main building, housed in a restored barn, brings guests together for meals, relaxation and connection, offering a quiet and intimate atmosphere that feels far removed from ordinary hotel stays.
