Bornholm, Designed Around You

Bornholm may be part of Denmark but it is very much it’s own unique place. The island has it’s own language, climate and it’s own beautiful nature; a combination of Scandinavian rocky landscapes and charming warmth of the Mediterranean. This hidden gem of the Baltic sea is the perfect place to visit year-round.

In the summertime the days are long with a huge array of diverse activities and there is the opportunity to go bathing in the sea. Springtime’s sea of flowers, pretty evening light and the various festivals make this an attractive time of year to travel whereas autumn is full of cultural experiences such as the culture week festival and plenty of activities focused on getting out into nature. Winter brings a darker season but it is no less charming; skiing, hiking and cold water swimming are all possible and in the run up to Christmas you can find bazaars across the whole island with Bornholm’s famous Christmas Market at the harbour as the main event.

In the summertime in particular there is a wealth of exploring to do. Beautiful sandy beaches with crystal blue waters, small shops offering delicious local fare and being the first European place to be named a World Craft Region you can expect to find a mecca of handicraft.

There is also much more to Bornholm than just Hammerhus; a clifftop medieval castle; beautiful round churches and smokehouses. We encourage you to explore Stavehøl waterfall, Svartingedalen and Randkløve Skår as some of the hidden gems on the island. A truly unique and memorable location which will guarantee an amazing holiday!

Getting There

Accessing Bornholm is easier than you might think. Fly in just 35 minutes from Copenhagen or from just over an hour from Billung, Aarhus and many others. You can also travel by ferry from Ystad in Sweden or from Germany. Climate

The island of Bornholm has a temperate coastal climate and Bornholm is the region in Denmark that boasts the most hours of sunshine. Temperatures here do not vary as much as the continental climate; the difference between average summer and winter temperatures is only 22 degrees celsius due to the heat front of the Baltic Sea. The warmest months are July and August where the daily average is around 20 degrees however it can easily climb to 30+ degrees if the weather permits! The sea temperature at this time of year is around 20 degrees and so the bathing season is perfect until September. Summers are dry and the winters are wet meaning that Bornholm has the most snow in all of Denmark – perfect for skiing!
