Experiences across Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland are defined by a deep connection to nature, carefully curated adventure and a sense of quiet luxury that feels both immersive and personal. From dramatic Arctic landscapes to refined cultural encounters, these destinations offer year round opportunities to explore, unwind and reconnect in some of the world’s most inspiring settings.
In Norway, experiences are shaped by striking contrasts between rugged wilderness and contemporary design. Travellers can journey through iconic fjords, hike mountain trails or explore remote Arctic regions where nature feels vast and untouched. Coastal voyages and wildlife encounters bring a sense of discovery, while stylish cities and boutique lodges add comfort and sophistication. Norway’s landscapes also create the perfect backdrop for Northern Lights experiences in winter and long, light filled adventures in summer.
Sweden offers a more tranquil, forest led experience, particularly in Swedish Lapland where vast natural spaces invite slower, more mindful travel. Here, activities range from dog sledding and snowmobiling in winter to hiking and exploring national parks in summer. The region is also known for its strong connection to wellbeing, with traditional saunas, forest bathing and peaceful lakeside settings creating space to relax and reset. Sweden’s blend of wilderness and understated design makes it ideal for both adventure and calm.
Iceland delivers a sense of raw, elemental adventure unlike anywhere else in the Nordics. Shaped by volcanoes, glaciers and geothermal energy, the country offers a dramatic stage for exploration. Travellers can discover ice caves, explore lava fields, snorkel between tectonic plates or unwind in natural thermal pools. The ever changing landscape means Iceland is a true year round destination, combining thrilling outdoor activities with moments of stillness in its unique natural environments.
Finland is often associated with magical Arctic experiences and a deep sense of peace. In Finnish Lapland, winter brings snow covered forests, reindeer encounters and the chance to meet Father Christmas, creating unforgettable moments for families. Northern Lights viewing is a highlight, often paired with unique experiences such as floating on frozen lakes or staying in glass roofed cabins. In contrast, summer reveals a quieter side of Finland, with endless forests, lakes and opportunities for hiking, wildlife watching and lakeside relaxation.
Across all four countries, the Northern Lights remain one of the most sought after experiences, drawing travellers to remote regions where dark skies provide the perfect viewing conditions. Alongside this, cultural encounters such as learning about Sámi traditions add depth and meaning to each journey, connecting visitors to the heritage of the Arctic. Wildlife experiences, from whale watching to spotting native species in remote landscapes, further enhance the sense of exploration.
Seasonality plays an important role in shaping Nordic adventures. Winter transforms the region into a snow covered playground, where activities such as snowshoeing, ice driving and husky sledding offer a sense of exhilaration. In summer, the midnight sun reveals a different side of the landscape, perfect for hiking, kayaking and exploring vast open spaces filled with greenery and wildlife. These seasonal contrasts ensure that each visit feels entirely unique.
Wellness is also at the heart of Nordic travel. Experiences are often designed to restore balance, combining natural surroundings with simple yet powerful rituals. Floating saunas, cold water immersion and spa treatments inspired by local traditions allow travellers to slow down and reconnect with both nature and themselves. This focus on wellbeing, combined with exceptional scenery, makes the Nordics one of the most rewarding destinations for both adventure and relaxation.
Ultimately, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland offer a rich variety of experiences that can be tailored to individual interests. Whether seeking adrenaline filled adventure, meaningful cultural encounters or peaceful moments in nature, the Nordics provide a seamless blend of exploration and comfort, creating journeys that feel truly unforgettable.
My family and I traveled to Sweden to see The Northern Lights in March of 2023. From the planning process to every detail of the trip, I could not have been more pleased with our experience. Alex was exceptional to work with. His guidance on the time of year, where to stay, activities to do and how to get to and from everything was spot on. I have never used a tour company before but thought a trip of this kind would be easier with some help. I am so glad that I did. The entire week was seamless and completely stress-free, allowing us to truly enjoy Sweden and our time together as a family. I will be recommending Off The Map travel to friends and family and will certainly be using them myself again in the future.
I would thoroughly recommend this company. Their planning and advice was spot on. Alex responded to my calls and emails very promptly. I will definitely use them again for future trips.
We – the whole family – loved the whole journey!!
The accommodations, the activities and especially the great people – thank you very much for this fantastic organisation !!!
Amy was a great help with planning this trip. Our trip turned out amazing. I also was very grateful for Off the Map’s Front Desk service, which promptly handled an on the spot issue we had.
The best travel experience ever on every level you can think of during a Lapland expedition (food, activities, timings, accommodation, transport, service, equipment…). I highly recommend Off The Map Travel for their outstanding level of professionalism and detail oriented mindset!
We originally hired Off the Map Travel in 2020 to set up a trip to see the Northern Lights. That didn’t happen, thanks to COVID. But, we persisted and in March of 2023, we took a 16-day trip that included both Iceland and Norway. IT WAS MAGICAL! Off the Map took care of everything! We were pampered at every stage of our trip. The people they hired and the activities they planned added up to a trip that will set the standard for any we’ll ever take in the future. Alex and his team were fabulous! We recommend them without restraint!
Off the Map Travel was great! Alex helped us plan the most amazing 10 day honeymoon to Iceland. He gave us great recommendations and was so patient with us during the planning process!
We did! Everything was truly wonderful! I think the Holman Husky Lodge was our favourite place. Beautiful accommodations, but best of all, wonderful people! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, excellent food, we really enjoyed our time there. We also greatly enjoyed Bergen! Opus XVI was beautiful and we loved being able to walk to restaurants and bars and take in the sights. All of our drivers were punctual and friendly. The itinerary was full but not overfull.
Thank you so much! It was an epic trip, we are taking home wonderful memories!
Exceptional service throughout the entire planning and booking process – travel agencies don’t get any better than this. A brilliant, seamless experience matched by the holiday experience itself. Would recommend ‘Off the Map Travel’ to anyone considering booking for a Nordic experience ‘par excellence’.
I used OTMT to organise a holiday to see the Northern Lights for my partner’s 50th birthday. They took the time to understand my priorities, the kinds of places we like to stay and the things we like to do. They recommended a fabulous itinerary in Norway centred around the Lyngen Experience Lodge. The holiday itself lived up to expectations and I have no hesitation in recommending OTMT. They listened carefully during the planning and delivered the perfect present for my partner.
What an amazing trip we are having. It is incredible. Many many thanks for arranging such an incredible trip.
We really enjoyed our Norwegian adventure despite the -22 days! Unfortunately no real experience of viewing the Lights but we did capture a couple of images on our last night – too much cloud otherwise so lots of snow. We really enjoyed the husky lodge – not at all what we had tentatively imagined. Thanks for your assistance, maybe next time we will see the Lights in all their glory.
