The town of Turrialba is located in the Central Valley and is situated to the east of San Jose. The area has several great reasons for visiting, and will suit all looking for nature as well as those wanting more of an adrenaline fix. The town is close to the river Rios Pacuare, and due to the river the area is a hotspot for kayaking and white water rafting. It is the cleanest river in the country and one of the top 10 best rivers in the world for rafting! As well as water based activities, you will find the Turrialba National Park, home to the less visited but most active volcano – Turrialba!

Getting There

Flights to this region are serviced through the capital city of San Jose. At Turrialba you are just over 50km from the airport (approx 1.5 hours) and in Pacuare is approx 90km from the airport and so will take a little longer – around 2 hours.

Climate

Turrialba and Pacuare fall within the Central Valley region and so enjoys its delightful year-round climate with weather that stays great. The hottest month (T25°C) and the coldest (22°CT) mean that the temperature is always warm. June enjoys the most sunshine and September is the wettest month of the year.
