Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

26th December 2025

Arrive at Rovaniemi Airport and your private transfer will whisk you off to Aino Private Island, a peaceful adults only retreat in the centre of the Kemijoki River. After checking into your beautifully appointed River Suite, the evening begins with dinner at the hotel’s cosy restaurant where seasonal produce and Lappish soul food take centre stage. The open fire and warm atmosphere create an inviting introduction to the island’s culinary philosophy. After dinner, guests can step outside to enjoy the tranquillity of the snow covered surroundings. With no light pollution on the private island, this first night provides a wonderful opportunity to watch for the Northern Lights and settle into the quiet rhythm of Arctic life.

Day 2

27th December 2025

The morning begins with breakfast before departing for the Husky Forest Escape, a two hour adventure where guests drive their own sled through a ten kilometre forest trail. With time to meet the dogs, take photographs, and enjoy warm drinks, the experience immerses guests in the traditional skill of mushing. After returning to the island for lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to relaxation with a private wood fired sauna and outdoor hot tub session, offering soothing warmth in the crisp Arctic air. Dinner is served at the hotel in the evening, followed by time to enjoy the peaceful island environment and another chance to view the Northern Lights.

Day 3

28th December 2025

After breakfast, guests embark on an e-snowmobile tour, travelling two per machine and exploring the winter wilderness of Rovaniemi. This environmentally conscious experience provides approximately one to one and a half hours of exhilarating driving, surrounded by quiet snowy landscapes. The afternoon is left at leisure with the option to visit Santa Claus Village or the city centre. After dinner at the hotel, the day concludes with a magical Aurora Reindeer Tour. This cultural experience includes a peaceful reindeer sledge ride under the Arctic sky, storytelling about reindeer traditions, and warm drinks served inside a traditional Kota.

Day 4

29th December 2025

Following breakfast, the day begins with scenic snowshoeing. After learning the basics, guests venture through quiet forest paths to ascend one of Rovaniemi’s hills, where panoramic views await. A warm drink is served in a wooden kuksa to complete the experience. The afternoon is free for personal exploration or relaxation on the island. In the evening, the private Taste of the Northern Lights experience offers a fireside setting deep in the snowy forest. Guests are wrapped in blankets while enjoying chef prepared bites and the peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by silence and natural beauty. This intimate moment provides a memorable connection to the Arctic night.

30th December 2025

On the final morning, enjoy breakfast before checking out of your River Suite. A private transfer will return you to Rovaniemi Airport, concluding a journey filled with authentic Arctic experiences, culinary highlights, and moments of stillness in Lapland’s winter landscapes. Fantastic trip to Svalbard which delivered the true Arctic experience we were hoping for. The hotels were excellent and the activities – dog sledding and snowmobile expedition were lead by first class guides.
Top tip! The champagne tasting in the world’s most northerly wine cellar in the exceptional Funken Lodge is not to be missed!
