Copenhagen, Gotland and Stockholm: A Nordic City and Island Escape

Combine the energy of Copenhagen and Stockholm with the slower pace of island life on Gotland. Begin with three nights at Villa Copenhagen, where a private canal cruise introduces you to the city from the water before a free day gives you time to explore at your own pace.

From Copenhagen, travel to Gotland for three nights at Sibbjäns, a family owned boutique farm surrounded by countryside and coastline. Enjoy farm breakfasts, seasonal dinners and a private boat trip to Lilla Karlsö, with time left free to relax and explore.

Finish with two nights in Stockholm at Villa Dahlia. Discover the capital independently before joining a personalised private tour through central Stockholm and onwards to Skansen, the world’s oldest open air museum, where traditional buildings, historic farmsteads and Nordic animals bring Sweden’s past to life.

See Copenhagen from the water on a private canal cruise, passing historic buildings, contemporary architecture and some of the city’s best known landmarks. On Gotland, settle into life at Sibbjäns with farm dining, time to explore the surrounding countryside and a private boat journey to Lilla Karlsö for coastal scenery, birdlife and a picnic lunch.

In Stockholm, explore independently before joining a personalised private tour by tram through the city. See landmarks including Norrmalmstorg, Hallwyl House Museum and the Royal Dramatic Theatre, then continue to Skansen to discover traditional Swedish buildings, historic farmsteads, workshops and Nordic animals.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Copenhagen and Settle into the City

Your Nordic journey begins in Copenhagen, where you are met on arrival at the airport and taken by private transfer directly to Villa Copenhagen.

There is no need to rush into sightseeing on your first afternoon. Check into your Superior Plus King room and take some time to settle in after your journey. Villa Copenhagen combines contemporary comfort with a strong sense of character, giving you a relaxed base in the Danish capital for the next three nights. Your spacious room includes a king bed and rainforest walk in shower, while the hotel provides an easy place to slow the pace before you start exploring.

The rest of your day has deliberately been left free. Depending on your arrival time and how you feel after travelling, you can stay at the hotel, head out for a gentle walk or simply get your bearings in Copenhagen.

Dinner this evening is at leisure. This gives you the freedom to decide what suits you on the day rather than committing to a fixed schedule immediately after your flight. Restaurant reservations can also be arranged if you prefer to have plans in place before you arrive.

It is a relaxed opening to the trip, designed to give you time to adjust and enjoy Copenhagen without trying to fit too much into your first few hours.

Return to Villa Copenhagen when you are ready and settle in for your first night in Scandinavia.

Day 2

Copenhagen from the Water

Begin your first full day in Copenhagen with breakfast at Villa Copenhagen before heading out for a private introduction to the city from its waterways.

A private transfer takes you to the meeting point for your Copenhagen landmarks canal cruise. For approximately one hour, a local captain takes you through some of the quieter waterways and busy harbour areas, giving you a different perspective on the Danish capital.

From the boat you can see the contrast that defines Copenhagen, with historic buildings sitting alongside contemporary architecture and houseboats lining parts of the waterways. Your route includes views towards Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish Parliament, as well as BLOX, which houses the Danish Architecture Center. You can also look out for the Inner Harbour Bridge and Circle Bridge as cyclists, pedestrians and boats move through the city around you.

Rather than following a large group tour, this is a private experience with a local captain, allowing for a more personal introduction to Copenhagen and its waterfront.

Once you are back on dry land, the rest of the day is yours. There is no fixed programme for the afternoon, so you can continue exploring Copenhagen independently or return to the hotel and relax.

Dinner is again at leisure, leaving you free to choose where and when you would like to eat. Reservations can be arranged in advance if required.

After a day that combines a privately guided experience with plenty of free time, return to Villa Copenhagen for your second night in the city.

Day 3

Copenhagen at Your Own Pace

Today is completely yours, giving you a full day to enjoy Copenhagen without a timetable.

Start with breakfast at Villa Copenhagen, then decide how you would like the day to unfold. You may want to spend the entire day exploring, return to somewhere that caught your attention during yesterday’s canal cruise or simply take advantage of having time to enjoy the city more slowly.

An additional experience can also be arranged if you would prefer to add more structure to the day. The itinerary has intentionally left this day open, however, giving you the flexibility to decide how much or how little you want to plan before travelling.

This slower pace works particularly well within the wider journey. Copenhagen is followed by several days on rural Gotland, so there is no pressure to turn your time in the Danish capital into a checklist of attractions. You have the freedom to explore according to your own interests and return to Villa Copenhagen whenever you want a break.

The hotel remains a comfortable base throughout the day, whether you are coming and going between explorations or choosing to spend more time relaxing.

Dinner this evening is also at leisure and restaurant reservations can be arranged if you would like recommendations organised ahead of time.

This is your final night in Copenhagen before continuing to Sweden tomorrow, so the evening can be as relaxed or as full as you choose. Settle back into Villa Copenhagen afterwards, ready for your journey to Gotland and a completely different Nordic setting.

Day 4

From Copenhagen to Rural Gotland

After breakfast at Villa Copenhagen, check out and meet your private transfer to Copenhagen Airport.

Today you leave city life behind and travel to the Swedish island of Gotland. The flight between Copenhagen and Visby is not included in the itinerary, with options available that connect through Stockholm. Once you arrive at Visby Airport, a private transfer takes you onwards to Sibbjäns in southern Gotland. A stop in Visby can also be added to the journey if required.

Sibbjäns is very different from your Copenhagen base. This family owned hotel, restaurant and working farm is Sweden’s first boutique farmstay, surrounded by the landscapes, forests and coastline of southern Gotland. The property has just nine individually designed rooms, alongside gardens and shared spaces that create an intimate, rural atmosphere.

Check into the Maja Room from 3pm and take some time to settle into your surroundings.

Your introduction to Sibbjäns continues with a guided tour of the farm and a welcome aperitif. You will get a closer look at a property where food, farming and the surrounding landscape are closely connected.

Dinner tonight is a three course family style meal. If you would like to become more involved in life on the farm, there is also the opportunity to help with the harvest and cooking.

There is nothing further scheduled afterwards. Relax at the farm, enjoy the change of pace and settle in for your first night on Gotland.

Day 5

Private Boat Adventure to Lilla Karlsö

Wake up in rural Gotland and begin the day with a farm breakfast at Sibbjäns.

Today brings one of the main experiences of your time on the island, with a private guided boat tour to Lilla Karlsö. Situated off Gotland, Lilla Karlsö is a nature reserve known for its distinctive coastal landscapes, cliffs and birdlife.

Travelling privately allows the day to feel unhurried. Your guide introduces you to the island and its natural surroundings while you explore, with the journey itself offering time out on the water and a different perspective on Gotland’s coastline. A picnic lunch is included, giving you the chance to stop and eat surrounded by the island landscape.

After your excursion, return to Sibbjäns for a free afternoon.

There are several optional activities available at the farm if you want to stay active, including cycling, hiking, tennis, the outdoor gym and wood fired sauna. Yoga can also be arranged for an additional charge. Alternatively, do very little. One of the pleasures of staying here is having the time to enjoy the farm and its surroundings without constantly moving on to the next activity. The natural pool is not suitable for children under seven.

Dinner tonight is another three course family style meal. As on your first evening, you can help with the harvest or cooking if you wish.

Finish the evening at your own pace before returning to the Maja Room for your second night at Sibbjäns.

Day 6

A Slow Day at Sibbjäns

There is no excursion to rush for this morning. Instead, start with another farm breakfast and enjoy a full day with no fixed itinerary.

This is a chance to experience Sibbjäns as more than simply somewhere to sleep between activities. It is a working farm as well as a small boutique hotel, with sheep, horses, pigs, hens and bees forming part of the life of the property. Vegetables, berries and herbs are grown here too, helping connect what happens on the land with the food served at the farm.

How you spend the day is up to you.

You might head out to explore the surroundings, use the complimentary bikes available at the property or simply enjoy having nowhere else you need to be. Optional activities available on site include hiking, cycling, tennis, the outdoor gym and wood fired sauna. Yoga is available at an additional cost.

The landscape around Sibbjäns includes Gotland’s open alvar, ancient forests and coastline, making this free day as much about the setting as it is about organised activity.

Later, return to the farm for your final evening at Sibbjäns.

Dinner tonight is a four course farm dinner, bringing your three night stay to a fitting close. After several days that have included the city streets and waterways of Copenhagen, a private island excursion and rural Gotland, this final evening is deliberately simple.

Relax afterwards and enjoy one last quiet night at the farm before travelling north to Stockholm tomorrow.

Day 7

Across Gotland and Onwards to Stockholm

Enjoy your final farm breakfast at Sibbjäns before checking out and beginning the journey to Stockholm.

A private transfer takes you to the ferry terminal in Visby, where you board the shared ferry to Nynäshamn. The crossing takes approximately three and a half hours, giving you time to sit back as you leave Gotland behind and travel towards mainland Sweden.

When you arrive at Nynäshamn, a private transfer will be waiting to take you directly to your Stockholm hotel.

Your home for the final two nights is Villa Dahlia, a boutique hotel beside Tegnérlunden. The hotel has been designed with the feel of a private home, using warm interiors and individually considered rooms rather than the atmosphere of a large conventional city hotel.

You will stay in a Junior Suite overlooking the park and city. Your suite includes a double bed, bathroom, bathrobes and slippers, workspace and tea and coffee facilities. Hotel guests also have access to the fitness centre and spa.

Once you have checked in and settled, the remainder of the afternoon and evening is free.

You can head straight out and begin exploring Stockholm or take a slower approach after your journey from Gotland and enjoy some time at the hotel first.

Dinner is at leisure and reservations can be arranged if required.

Return to Villa Dahlia whenever you are ready for a restful first night in Stockholm, with a completely free day to explore the Swedish capital waiting tomorrow.

Day 8

Stockholm Landmarks and Private Skansen Tour

After breakfast at Villa Dahlia, you have the morning free to enjoy Stockholm at your own pace.

You may want to explore the streets around the hotel, stop for coffee, browse the shops or make use of your included Stockholm city pass to visit one of the capital’s museums or attractions. With the afternoon already planned, the morning has deliberately been kept relaxed so you can decide what you feel like doing on the day.

This afternoon, head out for a personalised private tour of Stockholm and Skansen, combining some of the city’s best known landmarks with an introduction to Swedish history and culture.

Travelling by tram, you will pass through central Stockholm and discover places including Norrmalmstorg, famously associated with the origins of the term Stockholm Syndrome. Continue past the elegant Hallwyl House Museum and the Royal Dramatic Theatre as your private guide shares the stories behind the city and its architecture.

Your tour then continues to Skansen, the world’s oldest open air museum and one of Stockholm’s most distinctive attractions.

Spread across Djurgården, Skansen brings Swedish history to life through traditional farmsteads, cottages, workshops and village buildings dating back to the 1800s. Wander through the grounds, meet costumed interpreters and discover how people lived and worked in Sweden in centuries past.

Skansen is also home to Nordic animals, while its elevated position and green surroundings give it a very different feel from central Stockholm.

After your private tour, return to the city and enjoy your final evening at leisure. Dinner can be arranged according to your preferences before returning to Villa Dahlia for your last night in Sweden.

Day 9

Final Morning in Stockholm and Departure

Your final morning begins with breakfast at Villa Dahlia.

Depending on your flight time, you may have a little time to enjoy the hotel and your final morning in Stockholm before checking out. There are no scheduled activities today, keeping the end of the journey simple and allowing your departure to fit naturally around your onward travel plans.

At the appropriate time, your private driver will collect you from Villa Dahlia and transfer you to Stockholm Airport for your flight home.

Your international flight is not included.

Over the past eight nights, the journey has moved through three contrasting parts of Scandinavia. You began among the waterways and architecture of Copenhagen, with a private canal cruise and plenty of time to discover the city independently.

From there, Gotland shifted the pace completely. Three nights at Sibbjäns brought you closer to the island’s rural landscape, with farm breakfasts and dinners, time to slow down and a private boat journey to Lilla Karlsö.

Finally, Stockholm returned you to city life, but without an overfilled programme. An included city pass gave you the freedom to choose the museums, cultural experiences or sightseeing that interested you most.

Your private airport transfer brings the trip to a straightforward close, leaving you free to concentrate on the journey home after nine days combining Nordic cities, food, countryside, coast and island life.
