Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Alta and Journey to the Glacier

Your Arctic escape begins with a private transfer from Alta Airport, taking you deep into the snowy wilderness of Norway’s far north. The journey to Jokelfjord is breathtaking, as you travel past frozen waterfalls, icy inlets and remote mountain passes. Upon arrival at Isbreen the Glacier, you will be welcomed into an architecturally stunning timber structure built from Siberian larch. This is the heart of the property, housing the dining room, kitchen and social spaces, all with spectacular views of the fjord.

You will be shown to your private igloo, carefully positioned for privacy and comfort, with ensuite facilities and panoramic glass to frame the dramatic Arctic landscape. Take time to settle in, perhaps enjoying a hot drink or a stroll in the snow before your first three-course dinner is served in the dining room. After dinner, return to your igloo and keep watch for the Northern Lights. Thanks to the remote setting and absence of light pollution, you may not even need to leave bed to see them dance across the sky.

Day 2

Snowmobile Safari and Snowshoeing beneath the Northern Lights

After a breakfast buffet featuring local, seasonal ingredients, prepare for your first guided Arctic adventure. Today you will take part in a private snowmobile safari, exploring the open wilderness surrounding Jokelfjord. Your guide will begin with a full safety briefing and basic training on a private circuit, ensuring you are confident and comfortable. Once ready, head into the expansive backcountry, gliding across frozen lakes and snowy valleys as you follow your guide into untouched terrain. A hot lunch will be served en route. Return in the afternoon for time to relax, soak in the outdoor hot tub or warm up in the sauna. As evening approaches, enjoy a delicious dinner served by your chef. Later, embark on a private snowshoe hike under the stars. With your guide leading the way, you will explore the winter landscape in silence, with frequent stops to scan the skies for the elusive Aurora Borealis. This gentle but immersive evening excursion offers a true taste of Arctic winter magic.

Day 3

Ski Touring or Cross-Country Skiing and Leisure

Today’s activity is tailored to your ability and interest, with a choice between cross-country skiing or ski touring. The surrounding Finnmark Alps offer a range of terrain for all levels, from gentle entry-level routes to more technical climbs and descents for experienced guests. If it is your first time on skis, your private guide will introduce the equipment and coach you through the basic techniques before you set off into the snow-covered hills.

More experienced travellers can access summit routes, with all equipment provided. After your morning adventure, return to the lodge for a warming lunch and a relaxed afternoon. You may wish to borrow snowshoes and explore independently, read in the lounge, or take a final soak in the hot tub beneath the peaks. Your final evening includes a farewell three-course meal featuring local ingredients such as reindeer, arctic fish or foraged herbs, followed by time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings or one last Aurora display if the skies are clear.

Day 4

Departure from Isbreen the Glacier

On your final morning, take time to enjoy a slow breakfast and one last view of the fjord before your private transfer returns you to Alta. The journey out of Jokelfjord offers another chance to absorb the wild beauty of the region, with snowy peaks, frozen rivers and vast winter skies accompanying your route back to civilisation. Depart with a sense of deep calm, new memories and a renewed connection to nature. Whether it was the thrill of snowmobiling through the Arctic wilds, the silence of a snowshoe hike under a starlit sky, or watching the Northern Lights swirl overhead from the comfort of your bed, your time at Isbreen the Glacier has been nothing short of extraordinary.
