After dinner, return to your cabin and enjoy your first evening in the Arctic. The forest becomes noticeably quieter as the day draws to a close, giving you your first opportunity to slow down and settle into the natural rhythm of the north.

Tomorrow, you will meet some of Trasti & Trine’s best known residents, the huskies.

Wake among the trees and start your morning with breakfast at Trasti & Trine before heading outside to spend time with the huskies.

The dogs are an important part of life here, and today gives you an opportunity to experience that connection at a relaxed pace. Begin with a visit to the dog enclosure, where you can meet both the adult huskies and the younger puppies before setting out together through the surrounding countryside.

Your walk takes you into the pine forest and towards the Alta River. The route and pace can be adapted, making this less about covering distance and more about enjoying the surroundings and the infectious enthusiasm of the puppies accompanying you.

Along the way, stop to light a fire and enjoy tea or coffee with homemade cake. Your guide will share stories about raising and training huskies, explaining how the puppies develop from energetic youngsters into working dogs.

There is plenty of time during the day to enjoy the peaceful setting at Trasti & Trine before dinner this evening.

Your hosts will introduce you to another side of their work in Alta through the Trasti & Trine Forkprint Foundation. The initiative supports local people, projects and the surrounding environment, with responsibility for the place they live woven into the way the retreat operates.

The journey takes you deeper into the landscapes of Northern Norway to Isbreen The Glacier, a small and secluded retreat positioned beside the fjord and surrounded by mountains and glaciers.

With only four luxury igloos, the sense of space and privacy here is immediate. Check into your private Skalsatind igloo and take some time to settle in. Large clear panels open the accommodation towards the surrounding landscape, giving you remarkable views while retaining the warmth and comfort of your private retreat.

Meals are served in the main lodge, which sits overlooking the fjord and forms the heart of Isbreen. The emphasis throughout your stay is on local ingredients, personal hospitality and allowing the landscape to take centre stage.

Later comes one of the most unusual experiences of the journey.

The Infinity Skyroom removes almost everything between you and the Arctic environment. A cast iron four poster bed sits completely outside, with no walls or roof and a dramatic glacier backdrop.

It is less a conventional bedroom and more an opportunity to experience the landscape in complete seclusion.

Settle beneath the open sky and watch the light shift across the mountains and fjord. Depending on the conditions and time of year, the northern horizon may bring long Arctic twilight, the glow of the Midnight Sun or the possibility of darker skies.

Today begins slowly, with an experience dedicated entirely to switching off.

Meet your guide and walk through the Boreal forest to a secluded clearing overlooking the fjord. Hidden among the trees is a private wood fired sauna, completely off grid and without electricity.

The simplicity is part of the experience.

Inside, the heat of the wood fire contrasts with the fresh Arctic air outside, while the surrounding forest and water provide the soundtrack. With the sauna reserved privately for you, there is nowhere you need to be and nothing competing for your attention.

Afterwards, walk back through the forest and return to Isbreen for time at leisure. Relax in your igloo, sit overlooking the fjord or simply enjoy having the afternoon to yourself in this remote corner of Northern Norway.

Dinner is prepared for you before another evening outdoors.

Accompanied by an expert local guide, set out from Isbreen or travel to another location chosen according to the conditions. Your route takes you away from artificial light and into the surrounding wilderness, following trails beneath the wide Arctic sky.

Depending on the season and ground conditions, the experience can include walking, snowshoes or cross country skis.

Pause somewhere secluded for a hot drink and local snacks while your guide shares stories and knowledge of the Arctic night and the Aurora.

When the skies are dark enough and conditions align, you may have the opportunity to see the Northern Lights overhead before returning to Isbreen.

Your final full day at Isbreen begins without any need to hurry.

Enjoy breakfast and take time to appreciate the views surrounding your igloo before heading into the forest with your local guide.

Today’s walk is gentle and deliberately unhurried. You will move through natural habitats used by local birds and wildlife, following the forest deeper into the landscape surrounding Jøkelfjord.

Rather than simply walking through the scenery, your guide helps you understand it. Stories, traditions and local folklore reveal how generations have lived alongside the mountains, forests and fjords of the High North.

Your destination is a traditional log cabin belonging to your guide’s family.

Here, the pace slows further. A fire is lit and you can warm up with a hot drink while a simple meal is prepared. It is a wonderfully understated experience and one that captures what makes this part of Norway special. There are no crowds or elaborate attractions, just good food, local company and a landscape that has shaped the lives of the people who call it home.

After returning to Isbreen, spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

This evening, sit down for your final dinner in the Arctic. The kitchen at Isbreen focuses on local ingredients and flavours, making the dining experience an important part of your stay rather than simply the end of each day.

At Trasti & Trine, you experienced the warmth of a family run retreat, met the huskies and discovered how food, nature and community are closely connected in Alta. At Isbreen The Glacier, the landscape became even more remote, with private accommodation beside the fjord, an open air sleeping experience, forest sauna and guided walks that introduced you to local stories and traditions.

When it is time to leave, your private transfer collects you from Isbreen for the journey back to the airport.
