Highest Mountains Under the Northern Lights

The environments where you can see the northern lights also provide amazing opportunities for outdoor adventures. Each of our northern lights holiday destinations have spectacular mountains that you can explore, adding breathtaking majesty to the skyline under the northern lights. To help you decide which to visit first, here are the highest peaks from each destination.

Halti, Finland
Elevation: 1,342 metres

The ‘border stone’ is Finland’s highest point – but Halti’s peak is actually in Norway. The peak was almost given to Finland as a centenary gift, but legal issues got in the way.

Kebenkaise, Sweden
Elevation: 2.099 metres

The glacial South Peak may soon lose it’s title because it is slowly melting. If the South Peak melts, the North Peak will become the new highest point in Sweden. It currently reaches 2,096 metres.

Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland
Elevation: 2,110 metres

The peak sits on the summit crater of the active Öræfajökull volcano. The route to the top is popular but perilous – mountain guides are essential.

Galdhøpiggen, Norway
Elevation: 2,469 metres

It is also the highest peak in all of Northern Europe. There is a cabin at the peak where, during summer, you can buy drinks, chocolates and souvenirs.

Gunnbjørn Fjeld
Elevation: 3,694

Its location near the eastern coast keeps it quiet and secluded. It is the highest mountain north of the Arctic Circle.

Mount Logan, Canada
Elevation: 5,969 metres

Located in the Yukon province; one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in Canada. Due to the movement of tectonic plates, Mount Logan is still rising in height!
