Reykjanes: Your Last Day Icelandic Fun (No Airport Boredom Here!)

Alright, it’s that last day in Iceland. Bags bursting with souvenirs, but wait! Before you give up and head to the boring departure lounge, let me tell you about the Reykjanes Peninsula, your perfect, super easy Icelandic goodbye, practically waving at you from Keflavík airport.

This is Iceland’s “greatest hits” for anyone wanting one last amazing experience without, well, trying too hard. You can actually walk between continents (North American and Eurasian tectonic plates!) at the Bridge Between Continents. A fantastic photo op that’ll make friends think you’re a seasoned explorer, even if you just crawled out of bed.

And of course, no Reykjanes send-off is complete without a final, wonderful dip in the world-famous Blue Lagoon. It’s practically on the airport’s doorstep, inviting you to relax and wash away travel tiredness. Because what’s better than fascinating geological wonders? Geological wonders you can float about in, just a few hours before your flight! (Book tickets ahead, or you might be disappointed)

Beyond the obvious attractions, Reykjanes still offers plenty of wonders. Drive through huge, otherworldly lava fields. Yes, you’ll be right amidst the peninsula’s renowned volcanic activity, but no need to worry, it’s all meticulously monitored.

Catch a smell of steaming geothermal areas like Gunnuhver (where a ghost was supposedly trapped), or the bright Seltún/Krýsuvík Geothermal Area with its bubbling, colourful mud pots.

Feeling really adventurous for your grand finale? We can set up a thrilling Super Jeep day! Conquer the rough landscape and see hidden spots, proving you’re more than just a Blue Lagoon visitor. Imagine tackling those “rough roads” in style, getting to places your normal rental car would just give up on.

For one last dramatic ocean view, head to Garðskagaviti Lighthouse (and its older, smaller friend) for final fresh air, or watch the Atlantic put on a great show at Brimketill (from a safe distance, though, unless you enjoy getting soaked). Don’t miss the rugged beauty of Valahnúkamöl Cliffs with their rock formations and the sad but memorable Last Great Auk statue. And for a touch of local charm, do visit the “miracle church” of Strandarkirkja with its cute, tiny red elf houses.

It’s all the epic Icelandic scenery and cool places you want, without the long drive or the panic of missing your flight. So, for an unforgettable, easy, high-reward Icelandic experience to finish your trip, spend your last day on the Reykjanes Peninsula. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to the land of fire and ice with a bang, showing that sometimes, the best adventures are right under your nose (and handily, right next to the airport).
