The world famous Icehotel in Swedish Lapland offers one of the most extraordinary Arctic experiences, combining art, design and nature in a way that is entirely unique.
The world famous Icehotel in Swedish Lapland

Dramatic sculptures and delicate carvings
Rebuilt each winter from ice harvested from the Torne River, the Icehotel is far more than a place to stay. It is a living exhibition, where creativity and craftsmanship come together in a frozen environment that changes every year. For travellers seeking a truly immersive winter journey, it provides a remarkable opportunity to experience the Arctic through art, culture and unforgettable sensory moments.
Each winter, artists from around the world gather in the remote village of Jukkasjarvi to design and sculpt the hotel’s rooms and spaces. Every suite is individually created, transforming ice and snow into intricate works of art. From dramatic sculptures to delicate carvings, the hotel becomes a gallery where guests can sleep surrounded by creativity. This ever changing nature ensures that no two visits are ever the same, making the Icehotel a must visit destination for those interested in design, architecture and unique travel experiences.

The Arctic Table
One of the most distinctive culinary experiences available at the Icehotel is the “ICEHOTEL The Arctic Table”. This innovative dining concept brings together fine dining and artistic presentation, where dishes are served on handcrafted ice platters created by the hotel’s own ice designers. The experience blends taste, texture and visual artistry, elevating Arctic cuisine to something truly memorable. Ingredients are carefully sourced from the surrounding region, celebrating local flavours such as reindeer, Arctic char and wild berries.
Dining in this setting is about more than food. It is a multi sensory experience that reflects the spirit of the Arctic. Guests can expect beautifully presented dishes paired with the crisp, clean environment of the ice surroundings, creating a contrast that enhances every flavour. The Arctic Table experience highlights the Icehotel’s commitment to innovation, offering travellers a new way to engage with both cuisine and art in one extraordinary setting.

Ice Sculpting
For those looking to connect more deeply with the creative process, ice sculpting offers a hands on experience that is both engaging and rewarding. Guided by skilled instructors, guests can learn how to shape blocks of ice using traditional tools and techniques. From the first cut to the final detail, the process reveals the precision and patience required to transform solid ice into something beautiful.
Ice sculpting is suitable for all levels, making it an accessible activity for anyone interested in creativity and craftsmanship. As guests work with the ice, they gain a new appreciation for the artistry that defines the Icehotel itself. The experience also provides a unique opportunity to create a personal souvenir, crafted entirely by hand in one of the most inspiring environments in the world.

Icehotel Sauna Ritual
Complementing these artistic experiences is the Icehotel sauna ritual, which offers a deeply relaxing and authentic Nordic tradition. Rooted in centuries of Arctic culture, the sauna ritual is designed to cleanse both body and mind. Guests begin by warming up in a traditional sauna, allowing the heat to soothe muscles and improve circulation. This is followed by a brisk contrast, often stepping into the cold Arctic air or even rolling in fresh snow.
The combination of heat and cold creates a powerful sense of renewal, leaving guests feeling refreshed and energised. The ritual encourages mindfulness and connection to nature, reflecting the rhythms of life in the far north. When experienced alongside the serene surroundings of Swedish Lapland, it becomes a highlight of any stay at the Icehotel.

Arctic Retreat was simply magical. Graham and his team were superb. Their entire focus was on ensuring we had an outstanding experience. The accommodation, setting and food were all excellent. The team, experienced professionals, each brought their own personal touch and local nuance. It was faultless. The dog sledging trip directly from Arctic Retreat was also superb. We would return to Arctic Retreat in a heartbeat.
Off the Map Travel was great! Alex helped us plan the most amazing 10 day honeymoon to Iceland. He gave us great recommendations and was so patient with us during the planning process!
Well-organized trip to Norway and Svalbard with great accommodations and activities. Gwen was communicative and responsive to requests. Highly recommend!
What an amazing trip we are having. It is incredible. Many many thanks for arranging such an incredible trip.
Exceptional service throughout the entire planning and booking process – travel agencies don’t get any better than this. A brilliant, seamless experience matched by the holiday experience itself. Would recommend ‘Off the Map Travel’ to anyone considering booking for a Nordic experience ‘par excellence’.
Amy was a great help with planning this trip. Our trip turned out amazing. I also was very grateful for Off the Map’s Front Desk service, which promptly handled an on the spot issue we had.
Hello Lucy!! Kim and I had a fantastic time in Iceland! Probably one of my top 3 trips I’ve ever taken!
It was everything we asked for and you did a wonderful job coordinating it all so beautifully!!
Thank you very much and we will contact you again when we get ready to plan our trip to Norway and Lapland!
Amy planned a fantastic trip! Everything was very well-thought out. All transfers went smoothly, accommodations were amazing, great restaurant recommendations and the tours were once-in-a-lifetime, can’t book it yourself off the internet experiences. The guides were all fantastic. Communications were prompt and everything worked exactly the way it was supposed to. What a pleasure! Already working on our next trip.
We have loved it so much here that we have extended our stay and will come back to Bjornfjell and stay in one of their cabins until Jan 3 then we are staying in the igloo hotel the night of the 3rd. 😊We added a few excursions this week – we did the whale trip on the RIB boat (wow!), toured the igloo hotel (which is why we decided to book the last night!) and did the reindeer sleigh at Sorrisniva. You were so right, the bonfire excursion was incredible!!It has been an absolutely amazing trip!
We really enjoyed our Norwegian adventure despite the -22 days! Unfortunately no real experience of viewing the Lights but we did capture a couple of images on our last night – too much cloud otherwise so lots of snow. We really enjoyed the husky lodge – not at all what we had tentatively imagined. Thanks for your assistance, maybe next time we will see the Lights in all their glory.
I would thoroughly recommend this company. Their planning and advice was spot on. Alex responded to my calls and emails very promptly. I will definitely use them again for future trips.
Fantastic trip to Svalbard which delivered the true Arctic experience we were hoping for. The hotels were excellent and the activities – dog sledding and snowmobile expedition were lead by first class guides.
Top tip! The champagne tasting in the world’s most northerly wine cellar in the exceptional Funken Lodge is not to be missed!
