Finnish Lapland offers a magical wonderland all year round to explore.
Luxury Holidays to Finnish Lapland

A word from our travel specialist
I visited Finnish Lapland and was amazed by its serene, snow-covered landscapes and deep sense of stillness. The vast forests, frozen lakes, and gentle hills created a winter wonderland that felt both magical and untouched. I especially enjoyed the remote areas beyond the main resorts, where the silence was only broken by the crunch of snow underfoot or the distant call of a reindeer. The Northern Lights shimmering above the trees were unforgettable, casting soft colors across the night sky. Spending time in cozy cabins and exploring the peaceful wilderness made the experience feel both grounding and otherworldly.

Finnish Lapland, Designed Around You
There is a variety of amazing activities to do in Finnish Lapland in both summer and winter. Depending on which area you choose to visit there are some really unique options for both accommodation and the experiences you have whilst there!
Finnish Lapland is a magical place to visit no matter what time of year. Despite being high in the Arctic Circle, Finnish Lapland is easily accessible with good flight connections. Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region and is very sparsely populated so it is known for its vast wildernesses. The capital of Lapland, Rovaniemi, is the gateway to the region and extends up into the North to the homeland of the indigenous Sami people and into neighbouring countries Sweden and Norway.
From relaxing in a Finnish snow sauna beneath the Northern Lights to hiking through the scenery under the Midnight Sun there is plenty to do and see whenever you visit Finnish Lapland!

Explore Finnish Lapland
Finnish Lapland is best known as the home of Santa Claus and is the location for the world famous Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi where Christmas is all year round! Having said that; Finnish Lapland is definitely not a gimmick and has many exceptionally beautiful areas to visit if Santa isn’t your ‘thing’!
You could choose to visit Kilpisjarvi near the Swedish border where not only is there several gorgeous accommodation options there are exciting activities such as visiting the 3-border point where Norway, Sweden and Finland meet! When considering high level luxury accommodation you could head to Inari where you will find the stunning Javri Lodge which can be hired exclusively for a larger group or perhaps to Levi and the Golden Crown resort which offers glass-roofed igloo suites and top quality service.
Finnish Lapland offers a wealth of incredible activities during winter and summer; there are strong cultural roots with the Sami people and this is one of the best locations in the world to learn more about these indigenous people and get close to their reindeer. Snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice fishing are all possible in the winter and in the summer hiking is a highlight in some of the most magnificent vistas in the world.
It is also home to some amazing hotels slightly further south as you head down towards Rovaniemi (which is a fabulous city to explore all year round with high level accommodation, restaurants and activities) including Iso Syote and Sunday Morning Resort in the fell scenery of Pyhä-Luosto National Park which are perfect for a laid back summer escape with beautiful views underneath the Midnight Sun.
Getting There
There are a large number of domestic airports within Finnish Lapland which allows for easy movement within the country itself. There are a few destinations that are serviced by direct flights from the UK (such as Rovaniemi) however all others have regular connection flights through Helsinki – a major hub for connections to the rest of the world.
Climate
Finnish Lapland for the most part lies above the Arctic Circle and therefore enjoys an Arctic climate with summer temperatures averaging 14℃ and an average winter temperature of -10℃. In the winter, temperatures can drop as low as -25℃ so it is important to be prepared for the cold!
Geography
Finnish Lapland is characterised by its Northern position, its boreal forests and lakes and its low population density. The Lappish area of Finland covers approximately one third of Finland’s total area and is a beautiful mix of plateaus, lone but unique looking mountains and vast tundras which all make for some impressive photo opportunities!
Plants And Animals
Finnish Lapland is abundant in wildlife and plants. The reindeer are the main attraction in the area, at the heart of daily life for all who live there. You’ll experience how these creatures are used in all aspects of life for the Sami people. The lakes and rivers of Finnish Lapland are also full of many fish species, so it’s an excellent destination for ice fishing too!
Hello Lucy!! Kim and I had a fantastic time in Iceland! Probably one of my top 3 trips I’ve ever taken!
It was everything we asked for and you did a wonderful job coordinating it all so beautifully!!
Thank you very much and we will contact you again when we get ready to plan our trip to Norway and Lapland!
I used OTMT to organise a holiday to see the Northern Lights for my partner’s 50th birthday. They took the time to understand my priorities, the kinds of places we like to stay and the things we like to do. They recommended a fabulous itinerary in Norway centred around the Lyngen Experience Lodge. The holiday itself lived up to expectations and I have no hesitation in recommending OTMT. They listened carefully during the planning and delivered the perfect present for my partner.
We have loved it so much here that we have extended our stay and will come back to Bjornfjell and stay in one of their cabins until Jan 3 then we are staying in the igloo hotel the night of the 3rd. 😊We added a few excursions this week – we did the whale trip on the RIB boat (wow!), toured the igloo hotel (which is why we decided to book the last night!) and did the reindeer sleigh at Sorrisniva. You were so right, the bonfire excursion was incredible!!It has been an absolutely amazing trip!
Exceptional service throughout the entire planning and booking process – travel agencies don’t get any better than this. A brilliant, seamless experience matched by the holiday experience itself. Would recommend ‘Off the Map Travel’ to anyone considering booking for a Nordic experience ‘par excellence’.
Amy was a great help with planning this trip. Our trip turned out amazing. I also was very grateful for Off the Map’s Front Desk service, which promptly handled an on the spot issue we had.
The best travel experience ever on every level you can think of during a Lapland expedition (food, activities, timings, accommodation, transport, service, equipment…). I highly recommend Off The Map Travel for their outstanding level of professionalism and detail oriented mindset!
The ease of everything stood out to me. All we had to do was be there at the right time. The dog sledding was the highlight for my daughter and sister. We had the best time! For me, Manshausen was the highlight. We were very lucky and the only guests there for the majority of our stay. The staff was amazing and the food was so delicious. We had moose steak and it was the best meal I’ve ever had.
The cabins were comfortable and we were so lucky to have 2 clear nights where we just sat and watched the northern lights. We were able to get some awesome pictures too.
I appreciate all your time and care with planning our trip! I won’t hesitate to use Off the Map travel for our next adventure.
We originally hired Off the Map Travel in 2020 to set up a trip to see the Northern Lights. That didn’t happen, thanks to COVID. But, we persisted and in March of 2023, we took a 16-day trip that included both Iceland and Norway. IT WAS MAGICAL! Off the Map took care of everything! We were pampered at every stage of our trip. The people they hired and the activities they planned added up to a trip that will set the standard for any we’ll ever take in the future. Alex and his team were fabulous! We recommend them without restraint!
Arctic Retreat was simply magical. Graham and his team were superb. Their entire focus was on ensuring we had an outstanding experience. The accommodation, setting and food were all excellent. The team, experienced professionals, each brought their own personal touch and local nuance. It was faultless. The dog sledging trip directly from Arctic Retreat was also superb. We would return to Arctic Retreat in a heartbeat.
Off the Map Travel was great! Alex helped us plan the most amazing 10 day honeymoon to Iceland. He gave us great recommendations and was so patient with us during the planning process!
We did! Everything was truly wonderful! I think the Holman Husky Lodge was our favourite place. Beautiful accommodations, but best of all, wonderful people! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, excellent food, we really enjoyed our time there. We also greatly enjoyed Bergen! Opus XVI was beautiful and we loved being able to walk to restaurants and bars and take in the sights. All of our drivers were punctual and friendly. The itinerary was full but not overfull.
Thank you so much! It was an epic trip, we are taking home wonderful memories!
Well-organized trip to Norway and Svalbard with great accommodations and activities. Gwen was communicative and responsive to requests. Highly recommend!
