This Arctic Adventure in Alta is a beautifully balanced winter journey combining comfort culture and unforgettable Arctic experiences in northern Norway. Guests begin their trip beside the frozen Alta River at the renowned Sorrisniva Wilderness Lodge where striking natural scenery refined Nordic design and exceptional cuisine create a peaceful base for exploration.

During the stay guests are immersed in Sámi culture glide across snowy landscapes by reindeer sled relax in outdoor saunas and hot tubs and venture into the wilderness in search of the Northern Lights.

The journey then continues deeper into the forest to Holmen Husky Lodge a family run retreat dedicated to sled dogs and Arctic living. Here guests experience the thrill of dog sledding unwind in a secluded forest suite and enjoy the stillness of the Arctic wilderness.

Designed as a soft adventure this itinerary offers authentic encounters without compromising on warmth comfort or tranquillity making it ideal for travellers seeking a refined Arctic escape.

This Arctic itinerary focuses on immersive yet gentle winter experiences designed to showcase northern Norway at its most atmospheric. Guests discover Sámi traditions through storytelling and reindeer sledding along frozen rivers before unwinding in outdoor saunas surrounded by snow covered forests. Evenings are spent searching for the Northern Lights guided by local experts who track weather and aurora conditions.

A highlight of the journey is the dog sledding experience at Holmen Husky Lodge where guests ride through the wilderness pulled by energetic huskies and learn about Arctic dog culture. Day 1

Arrival in Alta and Arctic Wilderness Welcome

On arrival at Alta Airport guests are met by a private transfer and driven along the river to Sorrisniva Wilderness Lodge located just outside Alta. After check in winter clothing is collected allowing guests to stay warm and comfortable throughout their Arctic stay. Guests settle into their River Room featuring panoramic windows overlooking the frozen Alta River. The remainder of the day is free to relax explore the surroundings or simply enjoy the quiet beauty of the Arctic landscape. An optional visit to the nearby seasonal Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel offers insight into ice architecture and sculpture. Your accommodation for the next three nights is at Sorrisniva Wilderness Lodge.

Day 2

Sámi Culture and Reindeer Sledding

After breakfast guests head out for a daytime Sámi and reindeer sledding experience. Gliding gently across the frozen Alta River by reindeer drawn sled this experience provides a peaceful introduction to Arctic life. Guests gather in a traditional lavvu around an open fire where Sámi hosts share stories traditions and insights into their culture and way of life. The afternoon is free to relax back at the lodge enjoying the riverside setting or the cosy lounge areas.

Day 3

Arctic Wellness and Northern Lights Adventure

Today is dedicated to relaxation and one of the Arctic’s most iconic natural wonders. Guests enjoy time in the outdoor sauna and hot tub experiencing the contrast between hot water and crisp Arctic air. As night falls guests join a Northern Lights hunting excursion travelling to the best locations based on current aurora and weather conditions. Guides provide insight into the science and folklore surrounding the aurora as guests wait beneath the vast Arctic sky.

Day 4

Husky Lodge Transfer and Dog Sledding Experience

Following breakfast guests transfer privately from Sorrisniva to Holmen Husky Lodge set deep within a forested valley. After settling into the Forest Suite and enjoying lunch guests take part in a dog sledding experience as passengers. Seated comfortably in a sled guests glide through snowy trails while huskies work together as a team. After the ride guests warm up in a traditional lavvu with hot drinks and stories before spending time meeting the friendly dogs. Your accommodation for the next two nights is in a Forest Suite at Holmen Husky Lodge.

Day 5

At Leisure in the Arctic Forest

This day is free to enjoy the tranquil surroundings of Holmen Husky Lodge. Guests can explore the nearby forest relax in their private suite or simply enjoy the stillness of the Arctic wilderness. An optional wellness spa experience is available featuring a traditional sauna ice bath and outdoor hot tub offering the perfect way to unwind surrounded by snow and stars. Meals are enjoyed in the lodge restaurant using locally sourced ingredients.

Day 6

Departure from Alta

After breakfast a shared transfer takes guests from Holmen Husky Lodge back to Alta Airport for their onward journey bringing this Arctic adventure to a close.
