Holmen Husky Lodge is a unique Arctic retreat set in the wilderness near Alta in northern Norway. Located just outside the city known as the City of the Northern Lights, this lodge offers a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by pine forest at 70 degrees north, with huskies, winter landscapes and the chance to see the aurora borealis forming the heart of the experience.
The story of Holmen Husky Lodge began in the mid 1980s as a family endeavour on the Finnmark plateau and has grown into one of Europe’s most respected destinations for dog sledding and wilderness travel. Guests stay close to the kennel in architect-designed Forest Suites that blend contemporary Nordic design with the raw stillness of the Arctic landscape. Each suite is crafted in solid timber and set quietly among the trees, allowing the natural surroundings to become part of the accommodation experience.
Forest Suites are spacious and welcoming, designed with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of snowy pines, open skies and, when conditions are right, dancing northern lights from the comfort of your room. The ease of everything stood out to me. All we had to do was be there at the right time. The dog sledding was the highlight for my daughter and sister. We had the best time! For me, Manshausen was the highlight. We were very lucky and the only guests there for the majority of our stay. The staff was amazing and the food was so delicious. We had moose steak and it was the best meal I’ve ever had.
The cabins were comfortable and we were so lucky to have 2 clear nights where we just sat and watched the northern lights. We were able to get some awesome pictures too.
