First Hand Experience:

Here at Off the Map Travel we place strong importance on the value of our team being able to experience our locations first hand, and on a regular basis too, to ensure only the best quality experiences and accommodations for our guests. Our Chief Operations Officer Amy has just returned from an exciting week in Norway where she caught up with lots of our trusted suppliers, both existing and new – read on for more details about what she saw and did!

Luxury in Tromso:

Amy’s visit to central Tromso included time at the brand new luxury Vindlys apartments, as featured in our ‘Panoramic Luxury in Tromso’ itinerary. The finishes at Vindlys are absolutely sublime and to such a high standard. Views from the apartments across the fjords of Tromso are spectacular, and from the ‘Polar Night’ apartment you can even see both the Arctic Cathedral and the Fjellheisen cable car – iconic landmarks of the city. Amy would recommend a stay at Vindlys on New Years Eve 2024 – it would certainly be one of the best seats in the city to watch the celebratory fireworks!

Culinary experiences:

Amy enjoyed dinner one night at Maskinverkstedet, one of the newest restaurants in Tromso. With beautiful interior design and dishes to suit all tastes, it was a real winner and will definitely be recommended to our guests from now on! From local reindeer to vegetarian and vegan options alongside a fantastic drinks selection, it will be a new firm favourite of OTMT, alongside some of our other regular favourites.  The evening was made even more special by a spectacular northern lights display all over the city on Amy’s after-dinner walk through the centre!

The Lyngen Alps

Next up was a stay at Lyngen Experience Lodge, a beautiful secluded boutique lodge nestled amongst the Lyngen Alps. The lodge is a year-round destination, offering fantastic experiences, accommodation and dining whether it be summer or winter. The host, Eric, was incredibly impressive. Over a deliciously fresh 3 course dinner it transpired that had grown the vegetables, caught the fish, served the dinner, made the drinks, and was still up until the early hours, kindly knocking on guests’ doors (at their request) to alert them of the aurora. We are so proud of our excellent, multi-talented suppliers who always go the extra mile to ensure you have the most perfect trip possible.

Oslo:

The final stop of the trip was a couple of days in the Norwegian capital, including a stay at Hotel Amerikalinjen, certainly one of the best in the city. Their on-site luxury cocktail bar, Pier42, was sampled, and dinner was enjoyed at their restaurant, Atlas. In fact, the Amerikalinjen breakfast has been voted best in Oslo and indeed the 3rd best in the whole of Norway – and the OTMT team would have to agree!
