NEW and improved Northern Lights holiday for 2015/2016

Northern Lights expert, Off the Map Travel, has this week launched a new and exciting Northern Lights holiday, with the announcement of the Aurora Village overnight experience in northern Sweden.

The Aurora Village is made up of a collection of three traditional Swedish ice-fishing huts that are placed on the banks of the frozen lake Badsjön during the winter months amongst the mountains surrounding the world famous Northern Lights region of Bjorkliden and Abisko in northern Sweden.

The huts, which are traditionally used by ice-fisherman in the region during the Arctic Winter, have uninterrupted views of the greatest light show on earth. Jonny Cooper, director of Off the Map Travel and Northern Lights expert, explains;

“Isolated from any light pollution on the frozen lake with pitch black skies, the huts give you perfect conditions to experience the Aurora. Although you feel like you are deep in the Arctic Circle, the Aurora Village is easily accessible, with a guide, by either snowmobile or snowshoe from your base in Bjorkliden. This makes it a perfect adventure for those of all ages and abilities.
“The huts themselves are an adventure in their own right. Cosy heated and insulated the traditional Swedish ice-fishing huts give you the chance to appreciate and experience life in the Arctic.”

After the evening’s adventure on the ice at the Aurora Village, your guide will return in the morning with a hot breakfast to wrap up the perfect Arctic Adventure.

Available from December, once the lake has fully frozen over, the chance to stay at the Aurora Village has already attracted a lot of interest from those looking for a Northern Lights holiday. Cooper adds;

“The beauty of the new Aurora Village is that the traditional ice-fishing huts are semi-mobile, so they can be taken to the best possible spots to experience the Northern Lights. The lake on which they will sit this winter not only gives guests an adventure into the Arctic mountains, but also dark skies and stunning views with spectacular Aurora spotting conditions.”

A four-night trip to Bjorkliden and Abisko in northern Sweden costs from £1,399 per person on a full-board basis with accommodation for three nights in a four-star hotel and one night in the Aurora Village on a frozen lake with 180-degree uninterrupted views. Price includes a Lights Over Lapland photography trip, dogsledding and snowmobiling for two adults; flights excluded.
