Wild Food and Foraging Experiences

Wild Food and Foraging Experiences
The Sámi people have lived in harmony with the Arctic landscape for thousands of years and nowhere is that more evident than in the region’s food. On a wild food and foraging tour in Sweden, you walk in Sámi footsteps. Wandering through ancient forests and open meadows with an expert guide, you find and feast on edible delicacies straight from the land.

Forest to Fork: The Freshest Food in Swedish Lapland
There’s something about eating food picked from wild landscapes. The burst of seasonal flavour. The sense of self-sufficiency. The intimate connection to nature.
A wild food adventure blends tasting with storytelling and cultural insight. You learn how the land has shaped local food traditions for generations, and get to feel part of that story yourself.

What’s On The Menu? Wild Food Delicacies
Swedish Lapland is a forager’s dream. Vast, unspoilt landscapes and a rich bounty of ingredients grown under the midnight sun.
Depending on the season, your guide may lead you to golden chanterelles or birch bolete mushrooms, edible plants and wild herbs, and a remarkable variety of berries, raspberries, lingonberries, wild strawberries, blueberries, and bright orange cloudberries.

Into The Wild: What to Expect on a Foraging Tour in Sweden
Your experience begins on foot, moving at a gentle pace through the Swedish wilderness, learning to read the landscape as the Sámi have always done.
Your guide will introduce you to the local flora by name, by taste, and by story, sharing the medicinal traditions and cultural histories behind each plant and fungus.
Then, it’s time to feast.
Whether in your guide’s traditional home or out in the open air, you’ll sit down to a multi-course meal created from the natural treasures you discovered on your tour.
You can also make your own herbal tea blend or craft a natural salve from the ingredients you’ve gathered, a special keepsake from a memorable journey out in nature.

A Word on Foraging Seasons
Foraging experiences typically run from August to October, when the Arctic harvest is at its most abundant.
But even when landscapes are frozen and bare, you can still visit the home of Eva, our foraging expert. Here, you can sample preserved ingredients, learning about their origins and uses in cuisine and ancient medicine.
Did you know? In Sámi culture, there are eight seasons, each transforming the Arctic landscape and bringing new flavours to the table.

A Slow and Soulful Travel Experience
A wild food and foraging tour takes you to the heart of culinary culture in Swedish Lapland.
It’s a mindful pursuit, one that draws you into a deeper connection with the local landscape, Sámi traditions, and your own hunter-gatherer roots.
As with every journey we create here at Off the Map Travel, your foraging adventure can be shaped entirely around you.
Whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, a group of friends, or as a solo traveller, we adapt wild food experiences to fit your interests. Just tell us what matters to you, and we’ll take care of the rest.

The ease of everything stood out to me. All we had to do was be there at the right time. The dog sledding was the highlight for my daughter and sister. We had the best time! For me, Manshausen was the highlight. We were very lucky and the only guests there for the majority of our stay. The staff was amazing and the food was so delicious. We had moose steak and it was the best meal I’ve ever had.
The cabins were comfortable and we were so lucky to have 2 clear nights where we just sat and watched the northern lights. We were able to get some awesome pictures too.
I appreciate all your time and care with planning our trip! I won’t hesitate to use Off the Map travel for our next adventure.
We really enjoyed our Norwegian adventure despite the -22 days! Unfortunately no real experience of viewing the Lights but we did capture a couple of images on our last night – too much cloud otherwise so lots of snow. We really enjoyed the husky lodge – not at all what we had tentatively imagined. Thanks for your assistance, maybe next time we will see the Lights in all their glory.
Hello Lucy!! Kim and I had a fantastic time in Iceland! Probably one of my top 3 trips I’ve ever taken!
It was everything we asked for and you did a wonderful job coordinating it all so beautifully!!
Thank you very much and we will contact you again when we get ready to plan our trip to Norway and Lapland!
Well-organized trip to Norway and Svalbard with great accommodations and activities. Gwen was communicative and responsive to requests. Highly recommend!
Amy planned a fantastic trip! Everything was very well-thought out. All transfers went smoothly, accommodations were amazing, great restaurant recommendations and the tours were once-in-a-lifetime, can’t book it yourself off the internet experiences. The guides were all fantastic. Communications were prompt and everything worked exactly the way it was supposed to. What a pleasure! Already working on our next trip.
I would thoroughly recommend this company. Their planning and advice was spot on. Alex responded to my calls and emails very promptly. I will definitely use them again for future trips.
We did! Everything was truly wonderful! I think the Holman Husky Lodge was our favourite place. Beautiful accommodations, but best of all, wonderful people! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, excellent food, we really enjoyed our time there. We also greatly enjoyed Bergen! Opus XVI was beautiful and we loved being able to walk to restaurants and bars and take in the sights. All of our drivers were punctual and friendly. The itinerary was full but not overfull.
Thank you so much! It was an epic trip, we are taking home wonderful memories!
We – the whole family – loved the whole journey!!
The accommodations, the activities and especially the great people – thank you very much for this fantastic organisation !!!
Fantastic trip to Svalbard which delivered the true Arctic experience we were hoping for. The hotels were excellent and the activities – dog sledding and snowmobile expedition were lead by first class guides.
Top tip! The champagne tasting in the world’s most northerly wine cellar in the exceptional Funken Lodge is not to be missed!
I used OTMT to organise a holiday to see the Northern Lights for my partner’s 50th birthday. They took the time to understand my priorities, the kinds of places we like to stay and the things we like to do. They recommended a fabulous itinerary in Norway centred around the Lyngen Experience Lodge. The holiday itself lived up to expectations and I have no hesitation in recommending OTMT. They listened carefully during the planning and delivered the perfect present for my partner.
Amy was a great help with planning this trip. Our trip turned out amazing. I also was very grateful for Off the Map’s Front Desk service, which promptly handled an on the spot issue we had.
We originally hired Off the Map Travel in 2020 to set up a trip to see the Northern Lights. That didn’t happen, thanks to COVID. But, we persisted and in March of 2023, we took a 16-day trip that included both Iceland and Norway. IT WAS MAGICAL! Off the Map took care of everything! We were pampered at every stage of our trip. The people they hired and the activities they planned added up to a trip that will set the standard for any we’ll ever take in the future. Alex and his team were fabulous! We recommend them without restraint!
