Destination in detail
Tromso is known as ‘the Paris of the north’. The largest urban area in northern Norway, and the second largest north of the Arctic Circle, with culture and quality bars and restaurants in abundance. Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya. Due to the Gulf Stream, Tromso isn't as cold as you might expect at that latitude, but there is still plenty of snow in winter months to try many of the winter activities on offer. The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in northern Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789, giving the city a history and personality. It is the cultural centre of the region. Situated well within the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is perfectly situated for a Norway northern lights holiday.
