Whales and Dolphins of Pico

For whale watching in the Azores there are some year-round resident species but the months between March and September are best but each month is slightly different. Choose your month and then try to spot these species!
- March – See the Blue Whales as they migrate through the island chain
- April/May – See Baleen Whales pass by on their migration route as well as Blue Whales, Fin Whales, Sel Whales and the Humpback Whale. Don’t forget to look out for the dolphins playing in the waves!
- May/June – The master of deep diving, the Sperm Whale, can be seen during these months along with the arrival of the Atlantic Spotted Dolphins.
- July/August – Both the dolphins and the sperm whales begin to give birth to their calf, see the baby Sperm Whales at only 4 meters long! See if you can spot the mysterious Beaked Whale…
